This Box Has Traveled To America And Back

Written by Chris / Monday, August 25 2008 / 8:34 AM

Some people would never travel more than 100 miles outside of their hometown, yet this box has been across the ocean and back.  The box says, “Thank you DHL and US customs for this once in a life time opportunity.”

Everything We’ve Learned About Shipping (so far)

Written by Chris / Saturday, August 23 2008 / 12:00 AM

Knowledge can save time, money, and lives, so here’s our effort:

-    Write your commercial invoice well.  Treat this like college applications and personal resumes.  If you do not have the experience then consult experts.

-    Use UPS! They seem to scratch backs with the US customs (yes this is a conspiracy theory).

-    Follow the tracking number closely and call at the first sight of something going wrong.  You can set it up on the UPS website to automatically email or SMS you whenever the shipment status is updated.  Very useful.

-    Be good to your 3rd party shipper (if you don’t deal with UPS directly)!   Don’t nickel and dime them.  You are in a business relationship for the long haul; it’s ok to not get the best rates possible.  What’s more important is your agent going to bat for you and get your stuff to where they need to be on time, every time.

This is our experience from shipping to the US from China.  Shipping from other countries could possibly vary although all roads (shipments) lead to Rome (US customs).

Need U.S. VISA? So Does Cotton!

Written by Chris / Wednesday, August 20 2008 / 12:00 AM

So we ran into another big problem with shipping.  We had a 32 kilogram box of tee’s for the Fall / Winter 08 order coming, once again, it got stuck in US customs and this time we were unable to get it cleared.

Somehow, our shipper forgot to include the commercial invoice with the shipment.   Then they faxed a new one that claimed the content as “108 100% cotton t-shirts” while the actual content is 108 t-shirts of mixed garment.  Now, cotton is one of the hardest materials to pass US customs.  Because of this, the customs required us to provide something on the lines of a textile VISA for the cotton, something we’ve never had to deal with or heard of before.   Then, to throw up into a bigger panic, we were told that if our shipment fails to clear customs for 10 days, it would be DESTROYED.

Luckily, long story short, the shipment was not destroyed and is now in the process of being returned.  We will have to reship it with the appropriate commercial invoice.  Dear US customs, why are you so hard to please?

We did learn something new though: apparently, word on the street is that DHL sucks at clearing US customs, and UPS is very good at getting their stuff through.  We shall be profiting from this newly gained knowledge (I hope).

Verum Store? Ok.

Written by Chris / Tuesday, August 19 2008 / 12:58 PM

With e-mails coming in on almost a daily basis now about where to buy Verum, we are happy to announce that the online store has been in the works for the past month and we should have it released in 2 weeks (or sooner).  Hopefully this will ease the issue along with the new stores we’re picking up this season.  If you’d like to be notified the minute we launch the store, take a second and make sure you are on our mailing list.

Probably the most excited I’ve ever been for a H&M collaboration.  Photos from Fashionista.com.  View all of them from Fashionista. I for one will probably be buying all the men pieces.
